  • What is EDM Spark Erosion?
    Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a fabrication process Four Star Engineering uses to achieve a desired shape by use of electrical discharges, where conventional milling is not possible. For example, thin strengthening ribs on the underside of parts. Four Star Engineering has a number of EDM machines to assist you in bringing all the details of your product to reality.
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of EDM spark erosion?
    EDM can help to reduce lead times and also enables the creation of shapes within the moulds where conventional machining is not possible. Conversely, the surface of the mould will require polishing to remove the EDM marks. Four Star Engineering can complete the polishing of moulds to remove these marks as part of the manufacturing process.

Electrode shape extracted from CAD model, which is then used to CNC machine an electrode.
